Reading the Bible is easy—but reading it consistently is hard. Finding the right motivation can feel even harder. I’ve tried reading the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, but most of the time I only reached Deuteronomy… sometimes Leviticus. I even tried reading it backwards, but I still struggled to find the right rhythm.
In the last week of November 2025, I came across the Bible Note Worthy and decided to use it while preparing for my Sabbath sermon. As I scanned through its pages, I was impressed. Then a thought came: What if I commit to reading this Bible, and when I finish, I’ll move on to another one? Since this Note Worthy Bible was a New Testament edition, I realized it would be easier to start.
That decision led me to discover five motivations that helped me finally read the Bible consistently:
5 Motivations for Reading the Bible
- Start Small, Think Book by Book: Instead of being overwhelmed by the whole Bible, I focused on one book at a time. Reading Philippians in one sitting showed me how manageable and rewarding this approach can be.
- Use the Right Tool: The Bible Note Worthy New Testament became the right companion for me. Its design and layout made reading easier and more enjoyable, motivating me to keep going.
- Shift Your Perspective: I stopped thinking of Bible reading as a massive task from Genesis to Revelation. Breaking it down into smaller journeys—one book at a time—made progress feel achievable.
- Connect Reading with Purpose: Linking my Bible reading to sermon preparation gave me a deeper sense of purpose. It wasn’t just about finishing—it was about applying God’s Word in real life.
- Celebrating Milestone: Finishing the book Revelation at Mountain View College wasn’t just the end of a book—it was a joyful reminder that reading God’s Word can be fun, fulfilling, and transformative. Each milestone became a celebration of growth.
What I Learned
I realized that reading the Bible this way was not only manageable, but also enjoyable. Each book felt like its own journey, and I found myself learning and delighting in God’s Word more deeply.
My next Bible to read was another gift—one I’ll share about soon.
